The Hebrew behind the English word "Ai" implies ruin or heap. God both provides and teaches His people Israel through the events involving Ai in Joshua 7 and 8. He is our God, too. The wrath of God seen against the Canaanites in general is also demonstrated in today's text against high-handed sin in the nation of Israel. One thing is clear: our God shows no partiality (Rom 2:11, Eph 6:9). Additionally, sin matters and must not be trifled with.
